We recently chatted to Sophie Blakeman, current BA (Hons) Fashion Branding with Communication student about how she 'felt instantly comfortable' at Leeds Arts University, what she is currently working on and the amazing support the University offers...
Why did you choose to study at Leeds Arts University?
I chose Leeds Arts University as the student population is smaller than other multi-faculty universities. The university sites are also smaller which I preferred as felt instantly comfortable and it was a lot less daunting. The University also has amazing facilities and industry standard and up-to-date equipment such as the Mac Suites, access to WGSN (a trend forecasting company) and a really good library.

What do you specialise in and what are you working on at the moment?
I'm currently studying BA (Hons) Fashion Branding with Communication which means that my work is based on how brands communicate to their audience and position themselves. I'm currently working on personal branding and how we all present ourselves to others which is so interesting to learn about and has really helped me in all aspects of life, not just my studies.

What was your route to University - what did you study before starting University? Did you always have an interest in BA (Hons) Fashion Branding with Communication?
Before uni I studied business, history and fashion textiles at A-level. Whilst studying these, I realised that business and fashion had many crossovers which really interested me! From then, I knew I wanted to study fashion but when I was researching uni courses there were so many to choose from - it was super hard! In the end I chose this course because it does a little bit of everything and the job roles it can lead to are endless. I thought this course was perfect for helping me decide where I would like to go in the future.

How does the University support you?
The University is great at offering support in all aspects. They offer financial help and make sure that each student has an equal opportunity to have the necessary equipment. They also focus on mental health a lot and send out links and numbers for anybody struggling which I believe is so important. The course staff are also very friendly and reply quickly to emails. There is always a friendly face to talk to if you need support or help in any way at all.
Describe yourself in three words.
I'd like to say I’m friendly, hardworking and lots of fun!
