We caught up with BA (Hons) Creative Advertising student Lisi Davis on why she decided to study at Leeds Arts University, her inspirations and her plan for after graduation...
Why did you choose Leeds Arts University?
I chose Leeds Arts University because I had heard really good things about the course and I knew Leeds was a great city for student life. I was really impressed by the standard of work students were coming out with compared to other courses in the UK.
What made you select BA (Hons) Creative Advertising?
I’ve always liked creative writing, such as writing scripts and short stories in English at school so I thought I’d take a bit of a risk and see if copywriting was for me. I also liked how it’s purely a creative course that focuses on art direction and copywriting whilst other advertising courses tailor to the non-creative side of advertising.
What do you really enjoy about your programme and the University?
I like how it’s not a traditional lecture based course with three hundred other students. The classes are smaller and more active rather than just listening to presentations for two hours. The tutors know us all really well so we all get the help and attention we need to progress. We’re not just faces in a lecture hall.
What are the studios and facilities like at the University?
We have three studio rooms for Creative Advertising so there’s plenty of space to work. The facilities within the University are amazing and open to all students, it doesn’t matter what course you study. As long as you’ve been inducted into the workshop you’re welcome to use it whenever you like!
What is your best piece of work?
My best work was my response to The British Army’s brief for D&AD New Blood, 2017. I was awarded the D&AD Pencil Prize for being shortlisted for the best work submitted to the brief.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration from literally anything- from other creative advertisements to random pictures and words, you never know where inspiration will come from.
What do you plan to do after university?
I plan to get a placement or a job at an advertising agency, with my creative partner Cicely Alderson.
Tell us what you like about Leeds?
Leeds is such an awesome place to study as there are students everywhere so the social aspect is amazing! It’s also a big city with lots of agencies so we frequently get visits from people in the industry, as well as trips to Manchester which are super useful.
