Leeds Arts University and East Street Arts are delighted to offer recent graduates the chance to develop their practice in Patrick Studios artist’s studio space, rent free for six months. 

This is a great opportunity to integrate with emerging and professional artists as well as benefit from the networking and support provided by East St Arts. One to one mentoring will be organised by Leeds Arts University throughout the six month placement. The mentoring will take place during normal working hours.

The residency invites applications twice a year. The deadline for this application is 27 November 2020. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online on 11 December 2020.

In return for the use of the space a £50 deposit is required, which will be rolled over each month if attendance has been registered. If studio holders are not utilising the space on a regular basis as agreed, the contract will be reviewed.

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to Leeds Arts University alumni who have graduated in the last five years with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

About Patrick Studios

Leeds Arts University has an ongoing relationship with East Street Arts, a contemporary arts organisation in Leeds; they develop artists through an events programme and rent out art studios, playing a pivotal role in the cultural and creative identity of Leeds.

East Street Arts’ mission is to focus on the development of artists through their events programme, membership activities, professional development and studio/facility provision. They take a holistic approach to working with artists on a professional level to empower them to realise their potential. East Street Arts operates three sites in Leeds: Patrick Studios (East Street Arts headquarters), Barkston House and UNION 105. They also run a range of offsite projects.

On a regular basis, East Street Arts invites artists to get involved in their activities including artists’ talks, special events, cultural trips and exchanges, debates and publications.

Previous residents

Rachel Sedman graduated from MA Creative Practice at Leeds Arts University in 2018 and was the 2019 resident at Leeds Arts University and East Street Arts Patrick Studios Residency. Her National Trust commission Sounds of Winter was exhibited at Beningbrough Hall, York in 2019.
