The Kenneth Armitage Student Sculpture Award

16 June 2017

Two graduating students from BA (Hons) Fine Art have been awarded the Kenneth Armitage Foundation Young Sculpture Prize 2017.

The Young Sculpture Prize is awarded annually to students from the art colleges with which artist Kenneth Armitage (1916-2002) had a particular association; Leeds College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, where he was a student; Bath Spa University (formerly the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham), where he taught; and the Royal College of Art, where Armitage was a visiting lecturer and tutor.

The Kenneth Armitage Foundation supports sculptural tradition by awarding financial assistance to artists of all ages. The £1000 prize was first awarded in 2006, and is selected by trustees from the Kenneth Armitage Foundation in consultation with staff from the art colleges.

This year the prize was awarded to students Jessica Wilkinson and Sian Rycroft in recognition of their achievement in sculpture, and was presented by trustees from the Kenneth Armitage Foundation.
