The first Ruth Selina Memorial Prize has been awarded to Leeds Arts University Foundation Diploma student Angus Wood.
Ruth Selina completed the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at Leeds Arts University in 2018. Ruth sadly passed away during the first year of her degree course and the prize has been established by Ruth’s family to celebrate her rich creative life, in particular the period of time spent on the Foundation Diploma at Leeds Arts University.

The prize includes an award of £500 and is presented to a student with qualities that mirror Ruth’s own – a sensitive awareness, and a determination and thirst for knowledge while remaining humble and engaged.
On receiving the prize Angus said:
"The incredible staff on the Foundation Diploma have encouraged me to create ambitious and sophisticated work, whilst the department's facilities have helped open up the potential scope of my practice. I feel very honoured and touched to have been chosen for this award and I am excited to see the accumulation of everyone's work presented together on the online exhibition."
