Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design alumni given international opportunity

10 December 2018

The BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design course has been awarded a free stand at leading international trade show, Heimtextil, as winners of the ‘New & Next University Contest’.

Three alumni from the University, Ellie Way and Katy Welsh who graduated in 2016, and 2018 graduate El Riordan have been chosen to represent the University in hall three at Heimtextil trade fair for interior textiles. They will present as part of the 'New & Next' area which follows up the previous Campus stand on the show, a showcase for Universities teaching courses in textile design from across Europe. This is an exciting opportunity for the three designers in their first few years out of University to showcase their work to an international audience.

Leeds Arts University is the only UK University to be awarded the prize as part of the contest designed to put outstanding higher education institutions in the spotlight at the international trade fair.

Students in their second year of the BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design course have been creating designs inspired by the show and will exhibit their work at various trade fairs during academic year 2018/19 with the opportunity to present their collections alongside other designer studios and potentially sell designs to industry buyers.
