Students from BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design have just returned from Indigo in Paris, one of the world's largest creative textiles and surface design trade shows, to showcase their work, network and build industry contacts.
Students from this degree programme travel to Indigo each year as 150 to 180 international studios present their collections: designs, embroideries and appliqués, knits, fabrics, vintage, transfer paper, archives for all markets and sectors. Students also sell their work at Indigo to leading buyers from as far afield as China, South Korea, US, Japan, America, Germany, Brazil, Spain. Italy, France and the Netherlands; selling designs in excess of 6000 Euros.
Duncan Harrison, Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design, said: "The opportunity to travel to Indigo is incredibly important for our students, they get to see how industry works, show their work, meet those already working in industry and are inspired by the range of new designs at the show. This year was very successful; we made a lot of contacts, set up placements and arranged interviews for potential employment"
Indigo welcomes 14,000 professionals coming from 110 countries. The exhibition attracts market leaders from each sector: Haute Couture, designers, ready-to-wear labels, sportswear, mass market textile and non-textile goods, lingerie, household linens, department stores and chain stores.
