MA student’s work accepted into the V&A photography collection

Photograph Artist/Maker and MA Creative Practice postgraduate student John Arnison has had his work accepted into the V&A photography collection.

John Arnison's photographs of waterfalls were captured by the artist during his long night-time excursions in the remote Yorkshire countryside. Arnison hiked for hours to reach each location, even abseiling to access one waterfall.

His chosen scenes were lit with handheld torches, with the help of an assistant. The nocturnal setting and difficulty in accessing some of the locations make Arnison's Waterfalls series a particularly unusual depiction of the British landscape. The images present an adventurous response to the traditional picturesque representations of waterfalls, whilst also evoking a sublime sense of awe and the insignificance of man when faced with the drama of nature.
