Lonely Planet names Leeds a top European destination!

16 June 2017

The Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe guide ranked Leeds at number five in their top ten European destinations to visit in 2017.

Travel writers for the Lonely Planet praised Leeds for its recent urban regeneration and flourishing cultural scene, with highlights including the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds International Festival and the Leeds Art Gallery, due to reopen October 2017 after an extensive restoration programme.

Visitors are invited to experience the thriving nightlife and growing reputation as the food and drink capital of the north, with numerous independents bars and cafes on offer, and the ever popular two-week long Leeds Indie Food festival in May.

Lonely Planet’s UK destination editor James Smart said:

“Once defined by its industrial past, Leeds is now a confident, cultural hub in the north of England.

With major events this year including the reopening of Leeds Art Gallery and the 50th anniversary of Leeds Carnival, there’s never been a better time to head to Yorkshire and join the party.”
