Leeds College of Art Research Fellow elected for Unlimited’s 2017 Panel

12 December 2016

Following the success of the Unlimited project at the heart of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Unlimited is a 3-year programme delivered in partnership by Shape and Artsadmin, with funding from Arts Council England, Creative Scotland and Arts Council Wales.

Research Fellow Dr Kai Syng Tan has been elected to serve on Unlimited's 2017 International Commissions Panel Member. Other panel members include representatives of the British Council, Arts Council England and Southbank Centre.

The Unlimited commissions programme is linked with biennial festivals in London at the Southbank Centre (2014 and 2016) and Glasgow’s Tramway (2016), providing the opportunity for disabled artists to showcase their work across the country to national and international delegates.

Kai was Visual Director and Communications Director for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 8th ASEAN Para Games (south east Asia's Paralympics) in 2015. Commissioned by Sport Singapore and overseen by the Ministry of Culture and Youth, Kai worked closely with the Creative Director, Philip Tan to deliver shows that were described as 'spectacular' by Singapore’s Prime Minister and the Singapore Association for the Deaf, as marking ‘a giant step towards an inclusive Singaporean society’.
