BA (Hons) Visual Communication graduate James Rhodes is jetting off with his fellow talented film makers to attend The Oscars in LA, after their short film Shok was nominated for the Best Short Film (live action) Award.
James was the lead camera operator on the short film set in Kosovo titled Shok which has been directed by Jamie Donoghue and fellow Leeds lad, Producer Harvey Ascott. Based on true events, set during the escalation of the Kosovan War when the country was occupied by Serbia.
The film synopsis:
In Kosovo in 1998, two young boys are best friends living normal lives, but as war engulfs their country, their daily existence becomes filled with violence and fear. Soon, the choices they make threaten not only their friendship, but their families and their lives.
James is a highly regarded emerging cinematographer in his own right. Known for his work in music videos and commercials. James has created videos for many artists including The Libertines, Twin Atlantic, and mThe Vaccines as well as commercials for Poker Stars, (featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr), American Eagle, Nationwide. James attended Leeds College of Art between 2007-2010, graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in Visual Communication in 2010.

This is the first Academy Award nomination for Jamie Donoughue.
