10 November 2020

Work by Leeds Arts University BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art students will be displayed in an online comic artwork exhibition, in partnership with Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen, for Thought Bubble, the UK’s largest comic art festival.

Yorkshire-based Thought Bubble was established in 2007 and is an important event in the UK’s comic art annual calendar. This year, the week-long celebration of comics, graphic novels and illustration, is online and free of charge, running from 9 to 15 November 2020.

The students were asked to develop characters and artwork in response to two questions: “Who would read a comic like this?” for music and food venue, Belgrave Music Hall. The commissioned work represents an opportunity for everyone to experience comic artwork from their home.

Rosemary Chalmers, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art, Leeds Arts University said: “The University facilitates and encourages access to industry through live briefs, visiting professionals, industry events and internships throughout its degree courses. Thought Bubble is an important annual opportunity for our students to connect with industry specialists and peers, engage with the latest creative ideas and innovations and get their work seen. We are extremely lucky to have this truly inspirational festival on our doorstep in Yorkshire.”
