Leeds Arts University students and alumni win YCN New Now Student Awards

Eleven Leeds Arts University students and alumni of BA (Hons) Creative Advertising, Graphic Design, Illustration and Visual Communications have received commendations in this year’s prestigious YCN New Now Student Awards 2019/20

The commendations were made for the students' responses to live briefs from leading brands Camden Town Brewery, Fedrigoni x Oliver Bonas, The Guardian and WRAP.

Beth Turnbull-Smailes, BA (Hons) Graphic Design; Billie Sprong, BA (Hons) Graphic Design; Sophie Gregan, BA (Hons) Visual Communication; and University alumna Georgina Smith, BA (Hons) Graphic Design were commended for their responses to the Fedrigoni x Oliver Bonas brief to use Fedrigoni paper and card to design the packaging for a new range of Oliver Bonas candles.

Kira Blake, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, and Annie Hall, BA (Hons) Illustration, as well as alumna Hollie Fuller, BA (Hons) Illustration, were commended for their responses to the Camden Town Brewery brief to create fresh illustrations as part of Camden Town Brewery's on-going artistic collaborations.

Charlotte Cunningham, BA (Hons) Creative Advertising, was commended for her response to a brief to create a campaign moment to help The Guardian engage with 18 to 25 year olds. Georgina McDowall and Isobel Griffiths, also BA (Hons) Creative Advertising, were commended for their combined response to a brief from WRAP, Waste and Resources Action Programme, to create a campaign to inspire and motivate more students in Wales to recycle their food waste.

The New Now programme connects organisations with emerging creative talent, both those currently studying and those that have recently graduated, for live commissions and learning experiences. The programme is run by YCN (You Can Now) an award-winning learning network for leading organisations across the private and public sector.
