On her win Martine said: “Having one of my photographs recognized in this way is a huge honour! Especially one that means a lot to me and feels so much like it actually represents what I am capable of as a music photographer. I think we all look for these moments where absolutely everything comes together perfectly – how the artist poses, the lighting, the smoke – and when you see that moment, and you are able to capture it and completely isolate this singular second where everything just looks – good – that’s what music photography is to me. And I just think this photograph is exactly that.
Placing third in the WSPA with an image that feels like the epitome of me as an artist is extremely encouraging. Maybe especially in times like these where the world feels like it is working against what I do in every single way possible, it gives me some kind of confirmation that this is still worth doing.”
Judges said: ‘The image caught the moment. Perfectly timed, giving an intimate feeling; even when there are hundreds of people around you, the photographer is lost in the moment.’
Martine won £250 worth of Wex Photo Video vouchers as a part of the prize. The winners were announced online on 15 December 2020.
