Leeds Arts University’s Doctor Simpo and Thought Bubble launch comic competition

01 September 2020

This autumn sees the launch of Leeds Arts University’s MA Graphic Novel. To coincide with the start of this exciting new course, Subject Specialist Leader, Ben Simpson, aka Doctor Simpo, has devised a competition for everyone with a story to tell and a passion for comics and graphic novels.

Participants are invited to submit a one-page comic story for the chance to win comic-themed prizes, including vouchers from comic shop heroes, Travelling Man, and Thought Bubble goodie bags, and see their stories published for Thought Bubble’s Digital Comic Con this November. Thought Bubble is a Yorkshire-based week-long comic art festival that this year culminates in a two-day online celebration of comics and illustration.

Doctor Simpo shares his competition tips alongside the competition details and encourages budding comic creatives to think about what makes an engaging comic story from believable characters to the world they live in and the stories they tell.

Subject Specialist Leader, MA Graphic Novel, Ben Simpson said: “The Thought Bubble festival is about promoting the power of comics whether you are new to the format or a life-long devotee. And, for those, who want to take their passion further, the new MA Graphic Novel enables people to further their knowledge and learning of this magical art form that seamlessly combines art with literature.”

Full competition details are available on the Thought Bubble website, closing date Midday, 20 September 2020 (recently extended from 6 September)
