Final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Lorna Milligan has been awarded a D&AD New Blood Pencil for her Gift Experiences typeface.
The typeface was created in response to a brief set by John Lewis & Partners to show their audience that although John Lewis is famous for gifts at Christmas, giving goes on throughout the year. The brief was to create an illustration or animation led piece of communication using a variety of digital media.
Lorna created an alphabet that explores the gift experiences available to purchase at John Lewis using an animated type that is effective both as static and moving images. The typeface has been built using Gill Sans as the base and utilises John Lewis & Partners’ existing colour scheme to fit into their existing branding.
Lorna said:
“Winning a pencil at the very beginning of my career is so exciting, to think less than three years ago I hadn't even open Adobe Illustrator before! I couldn't have done it without the support of my tutors and course mates and I am really looking forward to what the future has to hold for me in the creative industry.”
