Second-year BA (Hons) Fine Art students Erika Pearse and Hollie Wilson’s installation ‘The Body and No Body’ will be exhibited at The Ridings Shopping Centre as part of Artwalk Wakefield.

Exploring the body as a dystopian-ecosystem, 'The Body and No Body' was installated in situ as series of collaborative sculptures. The installation will open at Artwalk Wakefield on Wednesday 31 May, 5 – 8pm, and will be open to visitors on Friday 2 June and Saturday 3 June, 12 – 4pm.

"I’ve really enjoyed working collaboratively with Hollie in a new environment and making valuable connections outside the university. It’s been highly fulfilling. We’ve both learnt a lot over the course of the past few weeks in terms of making, curating, installing and creating marketing materials. I’ve really enjoyed the freedom we’ve been granted to completely transform the space and the support we’ve had from Amy and Lucy from The Art House has been invaluable."

Students from across the University were invited to submit proposals for events, exhibitions, workshops, performances and installations to take place as part of Artwalk Wakefield 2023. Erika and Hollie’s installation is the first of four successful submissions to the brief funded by Knowledge Exchange which provides for activities that engage with external organisations for the benefit of the economy and society.

"To have a studio which is spacious for myself and Erika to work in is amazing. Understanding how my work changes in response to collaboration and working in a space such as the Ridings, is informative to both my art practice and professional development. The public walking past our space everyday and engaging with our work at various stages offers a new way of working for me which I am incredibly grateful for. Taking part in the May 2023 Artwalk has and continues to be exciting and influential"
