BA (Hons) Fashion Photography alumni Florence Law exhibited their work at Pride House in Birmingham.

Pride House Birmingham is a project venue dedicated to LGBTQIA+ inclusion, diversity and culture at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. The house welcomes guests, athletes and staff for the duration of the multi- sports event.

Florence, who graduated in July exhibited their final photography project, ‘LGBTQ+ Sports People’ at the venue. They are a queer photographer, who works with a mix of documentary and environmental portraiture, capturing the real lives of people.

Florence's current project explores how members of the LGBTQ+ community feel within sport, if they feel safe, seen and included within their chosen sporting community.

As a queer photographer, LGBTQ+ issues and visibility have always been a focus for Florence's work and a topic that they are extremely passionate about.

There have been studies focusing on the inclusivity and safety of queer people within sport, with worrying numbers expressing that they do not feel safe. So, by shooting these intimate portraits, Florence hopes to show others the real lives of queer people today alongside some personal words about their experiences.

I am so pleased that my work has been seen in a space such as Pride House, it is so exciting that thousands of people have had the chance to see this work as it means a lot to me, especially in a space that is centred around celebrating queer people in sports. This was a massive opportunity for me and I am really pleased with the positive feedback and reactions from the people who have seen it.”
