Two BA (Hons) Fashion Design students, Haiydar Ali and Ruslan Zinchenko, were selected as finalists for the prestigious biennial tailoring competition, Golden Shears.

Described as ’The Oscars’ of the tailoring world, Golden Shears celebrates the next generation of tailors in the UK, bringing together the very best fashion students and apprentice tailors from around the country and showcase their creative and technical excellence. Founded in 1974 by Robert Bright, MBE, the contest continues to draw keen interest across the UK tailoring and fashion trade.

Haiydar and Ruslan were two of just 22 finalists selected on technical merit to go through to the final to showcase their designs on the catwalk and be judged by a celebrity style panel.

“We are all very proud of Haiydar and Ruslan being finalists of the Golden Shears award. Their designs were produced in a second-year module and was the first time either student had explored tailoring, making a jacket with a focus on structure, cut and detailing. To be selected as a finalist for this prestigious award is a fantastic achievement and testament to their skills in design and construction.”
