Creative Advertising students published by leading industry platform

06 April 2022

Articles by two final year BA (Hons) Creative Advertising students have been published on global advertising agency BBH's online platform BBH Labs.

BBH Labs publishes articles from leading creatives on a variety of topics. Partnering with Leeds Arts University for another year BBH gave students a platform to share their voice, and articles by Taylor Orford and Megan Holmes were chosen to feature on the site.

Harry Guild of BBH said: "The standard was very high again this year, with the students bringing fresh, incisive thinking to a whole host of topics. The brilliance of Taylor and Megan's pieces was that they identified neglected advertising fundamentals (humour and subversion) and showed why they were more relevant than ever in 2022."

Speaking about the experience Taylor said, “I wrote my research paper because I wanted to show that even as advertisers, we recognise that sometimes ads can sometimes be overbearing. Brands often pull at your heartstrings or guilt trip you, and not everyone wants to see that on their morning commute. I wanted to show that comedy hasn't lost its influence on all advertisers, and give people a quick laugh while reminding them of a forgotten British brand, because I think that brands owe us a laugh. I try to tie comedy into a lot (not all, there is a time and a place) of my work, because without a doubt, everyone likes to laugh.”

Megan added: “Ads are everywhere, and as an advertising student it was important for me to research how adverts can always stay relevant and be unignorable. I feel so proud to have some of my work published, hopefully this is the start of great things to come!“
