Leeds Arts University BA (Hons) Creative Advertising student, Megan Williams, has been selected from a global social media callout to create a campaign that finds a positive message in the tragedy and uncertainty of the current pandemic.

Megan responded to a Creative Conscience brief that went against the grain of familiar Covid-19 media messages, inviting students to submit their ideas for a positive campaign that highlights how many people from around the world have recovered from Covid-19.

Students were given just three days to come up with a creative and innovative response to the brief, which was devised by Creative Conscience, a charity that inspires, trains and rewards creative thinkers to apply their talents to socially valuable projects.

Megan’s idea ‘DEFEATED’ now forms the centre piece of Creative Conscience’s ‘Total Recovered’ campaign with the first digital billboards switched on in Ireland as shops reopen. The digital billboards use live data sourced from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA and others, allowing the message to update in real time to display how many million people have defeated Covid-19.

Megan said: “I took part because I’m really interested in using my creative superpowers for good and building positive impact.”

Fabio Fragiacomo, Course Leader, Creative Advertising said: "Winning the opportunity to be part of a live global campaign is an exciting achievement for Megan and a proud moment for Creative Advertising at the University. Megan's success clearly denotes how well the course prepares you to deliver ideas that work."
