2017 BA (Hons) Creative Advertising graduate, Gabriel Barnard, has been awarded a 2018 Clio Awards Gold with his winning entry to the Student Print Medium titled 'Bic Stolen'.
Founded in 1959 to celebrate high achievement in advertising, the Clio Awards is an annual award program that recognises innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design and communication. The award is judged by an international panel of advertising professionals and is seen as one of the world's most recognisable international advertising awards.
We asked Gabriel how he felt on receiving the award:
"I had absolutely no idea I’d won the award until it turned up at my door, opening the box was honestly a moment of sheer disbelief. To win such a prestigious award truly is amazing and to win it with such a simple idea, with minimal design, just shows you the power of a good idea.
I think that gets lost in advertising quite often. My preference is always to try and strip something back as far as it can go whilst still telling its story. Winning this just proves the value of that and it’s something I’ll hold with me during my career in the industry. I can’t thank my course leaders and Leeds Arts University enough for the constant mentoring throughout the entirety of my time there. This might be the first Clio to come out of the course but I know it won’t be the last."
