25 February 2014

SPUR is an art collective based in Leeds who organize events, residencies, exhibitions and publications, set up by BA (Hons) Art & Design (Interdisciplinary) alumni Abi Mitchell and Josie Wells, Spur work with and create opportunities for local and international artists.

SPUR are having a busy month launching their new year program with four projects, starting with the launch of the new publication Collection of and exhibition Our House at Village Bookstore. To really get everyone talking they have also launched a four week residency project AOL on the SPUR Twitter profile and a new website with online gallery Landing Site, which will showcase a new work each month by specially selected and open call artists.

The AOL residency project sees four diverse artists take over the Spur Twitter account for one week each over the course of a month, to explore the virtual space in relation to a residency construct. Artists taking up the residency include alumni of BA (Hons) Fine Art James Maxfield and current Fine Art student Callum Kirkbride.

Spur’s second publication titled ‘Collection of’ was launched at Village Bookstore & Gallery on Thursday 6 February in Leeds. The publication is made up of a text-based zine, a set of artist postcard editions and a cassette featuring diverse local bands including Super Luxury and The Horn The Hunt, plus a one off song by Temple Songs, specially written and recorded for this release only.

Spur’s Our House exhibition is also currently running at The Village Bookstore. Our House is an extension of the ‘Collection of’ publication, featuring artists from the postcard series plus new specially selected artists, both local and international. The exhibition is open to the public during Village opening hours over the month of February.
