On Wednesday 18th November our BA (Hons) Creative Advertising team welcomed Robin Wight, an advertising icon with almost 50 years’ experience under his belt.
Robin, President of Engine and founder of Ideas Foundation, is a veteran ad man. After working as a copywriter for a number of agencies, including Collett Dickenson Pearce (the agency’s work was created under the work of Leeds College of Art alumni, Colin Millward and Ron Collins). In the late 1960s and 1970s Robin co-founded Wight Collins Rutherford Scott (WCRS) in 1979.
WCRS grew to become one of the most influential agencies in the UK advertising industry, with Robin helping to create iconic campaigns for brands like Carling Black Label, Orange and BMW and more recently Warburtons. In 2004, Robin was part of the management team that led the management buyout of Havas, creating Engine.
Robin gave plenty of advice to students on how to stand out, be successful and start a career in advertising. He talked through his 50 years in advertising showing examples of successful campaigns spanning the length of his career.
