Broad Horizons presents creative outputs of recent engagement projects Leeds Arts University’s Progression Team has run with pre-university students from a range of educational and community settings. It is an opportunity to celebrate their efforts and achievements, through displaying their own creative work and come together as part of the Leeds Arts University Progression community.
The exhibition will be accompanied by further outreach activities and workshops, inviting wider participation by communities and groups which we already collaborate with.
The Progression Team runs a range of creative outreach projects to support access to higher education, for those who are underrepresented in our student cohorts. This exhibition will focus on work created by participants of our Creative Pathways Programme, After School Art Club, and Summer School.
Participants of the Creative Pathways Programme include Year 9-13 students from underrepresented groups who attend partnership schools and colleges in Leeds and Bradford. The exhibition presents participants’ responses to self-directed creative briefs and projects, including experimental drawing and illustration.
The After School Art Club is a termly extracurricular programme of creative workshops for students in Years 9-11 from Leeds, Wakefield, and Bradford schools. The works exhibited draw from recent focuses on digital photography, architecture, and interior design.
In August 2021, the usually in-person Summer School was presented as a series of online workshops, in sculpture, drawing, singing, and photography. The workshops were aimed at different age groups, ranging from primary to pre-16, 16+, and adult learners.
The Progression Team consists of Martell Baines (Progression Manager), Diane Edwards (Progression Support Worker), Jenny Scannell (Progression Support Worker), and Holly Standen (Progression Administrator). The team has been supported by Associate Lecturers Lucy Bates, Mel Dewey, Sally Storr, and Georgina Jakubiak.
