Responding to Dora Garcia’s exhibition of performance and books, artist and BA (Hons) Fine Art lecturer David Steans presents Crime World, an art event of works inspired by the controversial publishing press, at The Tetley on Wednesday 29 March from 6-8pm.
The event also features the live debut of ‘non’ - an artist collective comprised of Level 4 and Level 5 BA (Hons) Fine Art students. David Steans invited ‘non’ to conceive a new performance for the event.
non are a Leeds-based artist collective who typically work in sound, film and performance. In their own words, they are “non-actors, non-singers, non-performers”. For Crime World, non are: Amelia Baron, Ben Sargent, Charlie Howard, Georgia Timms, Henry Gonnet, Holly Standen, Joseph Casey, Kitty Dickinson, Laurie Powell, Maria Cepeda, Mimi Kelleher, Miranda Phillips and Oli Ross.
non was formed to facilitate students interested in performance and sound as a practice area. The choir is a space for students to explore their own ideas in performance and sound and the form of the work exists as recorded audio and visual pieces as well as live performances.
To be you is to be me.
non meditate on the sustaining power of fame, in life and in death, by occupying the memetic space of the ghost orchestra or karaoke.
Their short, but ever so sweet chanson, uses this structure as a searchlight in the futile hunt for a Marilyn to call their own.
non is an artist collective who operate within sound, film, and performance.
