Entry Requirements

All of our entry requirements also include a required standard of English Language. Information on what we will accept at each level of qualification is listed below.

Applicants holding other academic qualifications or substantial relevant professional experience may be considered for our undergraduate or postgraduate courses.

The most common qualification requirements are:

Foundation Diploma in Art & Design

  • European Baccalaureate Diploma
    A minimum overall score of 7 (which must include English and Maths)
  • International Baccalaureate
    A minimum of the equivalent of 72 UCAS Tariff Points
  • French Baccalaureate
    A minimum of the equivalent of 72 UCAS Tariff Points

Undergraduate courses

  • European Baccalaureate Diploma
    A minimum overall score of 7.5 (which must include English and Maths)
  • International Baccalaureate
    A minimum of the equivalent of 112 UCAS Tariff Points
  • French Baccalaureate
    A minimum of the equivalent of 112 UCAS Tariff Points

For BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance you will need:

  • Certified Grade 5 Theory of Music equivalent to either ABRSM, Unisa or RockSchool or Trinity
  • Pass a Leeds Arts University audition in the year prior to entry demonstrating a high level of performing ability – equivalent to ABRSM/Rockschool/Trinity Grade 8

English Language Requirements

It is a requirement for Further Education study that applicants have studied both English and Maths to the minimum equivalency of GCSE grade 4/C or above (or equivalent international qualification). You would therefore need to have taken or currently be studying these two subjects.  If you are unsure if the qualifications you have taken are equivalent to the required standard specified above please email Admissions at admissions@leeds-art.ac.uk.

Undergraduate level applicants must have attained a GCSE grade 4/C in English or international equivalent. If you have not, you need to be studying English or you will need to sit a Secure English Language Test (SELT). Please refer to the English language requirements below.

Foundation Diploma in Art & Design

  • IELTS 5.0 with a minimum of 5.0 in each component www.ielts.org

Undergraduate courses

  • IELTS 5.5 with minimum of 5.5 in each component www.ielts.org
  • CAE (Cambridge Advanced Certificate) in English at grade C or above
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 46 (with no less than 42 in any component)
  • IGCSE English @ C or above: Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) English as a First Language (Syllabus 0522). Please contact us for details if syllabus or Examination board differs
