Are you a Care Leaver considering applying to study Art as the next step?
Leeds Arts University provides a raft of support throughout the application and transition into Further and Higher Education.
Here are some of the ways we will support you.
Please contact Student Welfare with your questions on how we can help.
Nominated Care Leaver Support
We have a dedicated Care Leaver contact, Anne-Marie Watkinson who can answer your questions regarding our courses and can discuss the support we can offer to Care Leavers who are considering coming to Leeds Arts University to study.
Please contact Anne-Marie at Anne-Marie.Watkinson@leeds-art.ac.uk or phone 0113 202 8253.
A personal tour of Leeds Arts University
This is an opportunity for a Care leaver who is considering the possibility of proceeding into studying art and design to have a tour accompanied by either a Foster Carer, Designated Teacher, Mentor or Social Worker.
Come and have a bespoke tour (around 30 minutes) around the Leeds Arts University campus with a member of the Progression Team staff and have an informal opportunity to talk about their interests, plans for their future pathway into Further or Higher education and have any questions answered.
Please contact us at Progression to book a time and date.
Developing your Portfolio through the Progression After School Art Club
Care Leavers in school or University up to Year 13 can apply to join the free after school club so that they gain additional opportunity to experience some of the specialist processes and facilities at the University.
This opportunity builds up their creative skills, confidence and portfolio. It is provides good preparation towards studying art and design beyond GCSE.
The Art Club provides support in application, personal statement and portfolio development to those participants who are considering putting in an application to go onto Further Education and Higher Education.
These are currently offered as online activities.
Indicating that you are a Care Leaver on the UCAS application form
Students applying to UCAS are asked if they are a care leaver or a looked-after young person. We encourage care leavers to tick this box. This is important because there may be extra financial support available for Care Leavers, additional support from the nominated Care Leaver contact Elizabeth Crickmore and year round accommodation arrangements can be requested. Those applicants, who have ticked this box on the UCAS form, will be contacted by Elizabeth to find out if there is any additional support needed before the start of term.
In order for us to confirm that you meet the definition of a care leaver please could you send us documentary evidence in the form of a letter from your social worker or head teacher and email it to admissions@leeds-art.ac.uk
