Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 170 years and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.
The BA (Hons) Games Design course provides a challenging programme of study that is innovative, lively, and critically rich. This exciting course motivates students to explore both the creative and technical dimensions of designing interactive and immersive game experiences. It places emphasis on the creation of prototypes and design documents using engaging gameplay elements, level development, and the crafting of compelling narratives. This ambitious course offers an exceptional experience with access to state-of-the-art software, advanced hardware, and dedicated studio spaces equipped with industry-standard, all set within an exciting specialist arts culture that affords opportunities for exciting collaborations and innovative projects.
This is an exciting time to join the course team, as you will have the opportunity to make a distinct contribution to this ambitious course. As a Senior Lecturer in Games Design, you will help plan, design, deliver and organise the BA (Hons) Games Design degree. You will contribute to the academic management and pastoral overseeing of one of the year cohorts, supporting the Course Leader. You will be teaching and leading on games design modules across all levels, whilst contributing broadly to other elements within the course to build links with external employers, events, and opportunities for exhibiting student work. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lectures, seminars, studio and workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.
You will have extensive knowledge and applied expertise in analogue and digital games design, across practice, theory and concepts including prototyping, testing, and using Unreal with an emphasis on blueprints over C++. Experience with Gamemaker or 3D asset creation software such as Blender is welcomed.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject or willingness to obtain it within a period of 2 years, demonstrate experience of teaching in creative disciplines; and have extensive knowledge and expertise appropriate to Games Design as a discipline including emergent innovations, and contemporary contexts.
Full details of the essential and desirable criteria for this role can be found in the job description.
Please note we do not require assistance from recruitment agencies for this position.
Interviews will be held in person on Thursday 18 January 2024.
Leeds Arts University is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all learners and expect our staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be made on merit, and as an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. In recognition of our commitment to create a diverse team that draws from our widest talent pool, we would particularly encourage applications from groups who are currently under-represented at this level, which in this case is our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic applicants.
