Thinking about further study or a career in art and design? The Portfolio Development course is a stimulating mix of workshops and studio sessions, which aim to push your work in lively and experimental new directions.
This series of Saturdays is for students looking to develop their experience and portfolios in preparation for further and higher art and design education. It is ideal for students who are wishing to apply for art and design Extended Diplomas, Foundation Diplomas, degrees or anyone looking to develop new skills and build up a unique body of work, gaining new approaches to image making.
Working in our specialist art school setting, you will experience a taster of what working life will consist of at art school.
What will you do?
You’ll emphasise on mark-making, drawing, ideas generation and the exploration of media, encouraging new ways of thinking and seeing.
Your new skills can be applied to any artistic discipline that you wish to embark on. For example, Graphic Design, Illustration, Craft, Design, 3D, Fine Art, etc.
What will you achieve?
You’ll broaden your understanding of what it means to be a professional artist or designer. You’ll also learn quite a lot about yourself (like what you’re especially good at, and what inspires you), and you’ll certainly gain loads of confidence. By the end of the course you’ll go away with some exciting new skills!
Who will your tutor be?
Emilie Scholey is a practising artist and art teacher with a BA (Hons) in Illustration from Loughborough University. Emilie has a Postgraduate Certificate in Art and Design Education from De Montfort University, plus a Distinction in International Education from Cambridge University. She has worked in Art Education for 16 years and managed several Art Departments.
Most recently, Emilie has returned from establishing an International Art School in Beijing. Having never previously studied Art, students from this school gained high grades at A Level and went on to study at International Universities. Emilie is a tutor for International School of Art (ISCA) in Buckinghamshire and is an Associate 'Portfolio Development' Tutor at Leeds Art University. Emilie specialises in drawing, painting and printmaking and enjoys developing young artists.
In her spare time, Emilie is passionate about portraiture work and has established a design company with a fellow illustrator friend.
