Teresa is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Illustration programme. Her previous teaching experience includes the Illustration programme at Massachusetts College of Art and Design as well as short courses at Glasgow School of Art.
Alongside her teaching, Teresa is an author and illustrator, primarily of books for children and young people. She has illustrated for many international publishing houses including Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and others. Her illustrated trilogy of novels for young people, The Blackhope Enigma series (Templar Publishing), was short-listed for a number of book awards and selected by the Junior Library Guild in the USA. Booktrust selected Jet Black Heart (Barrington Stoke), her most recent illustrated novel, for distribution to thousands of school libraries in England.
Teresa has appeared at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the Cheltenham Literature Festival and others around the UK. She co-tutored a residential children’s writing course at Moniack Mhor writing centre in Scotland and has led many writing and illustration workshops at schools, libraries and community centres, doing creative work with all ages from young children to adults.
Teresa’s research interests are focused on international collaborative approaches to Illustration education and on current trends in illustrated fiction. Since joining Leeds Arts University as Senior Lecturer, Teresa has overseen Level 5, delivering lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops including assessment and feedback for the entire year group as well as advising final year students on their dissertations.
