BA (Hons) Animation student Cara Lambert talks to us about her time at the University and what's next...

What made you choose Animation?

I've always been fascinated with animation and knowing I wanted to make my own; this course was the best one to help me to achieve this and would give me opportunities within the animation world, through work placements and animation festivals.

What do you really enjoy about studying Animation?

I like my course as I'm always learning something new about animation, whether it’s through learning a new process or just researching into an animator that has given me inspiration. I also love how my group are always talking and helping each other to improve.

What are the studios and facilities like at the University?

The studios are always available and the facilities have all the equipment you need. I'm always borrowing graphic tablets to draw my animations with.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on my Visual Language brief, visualising what a sound would look like and making animations for these designs.

Where do you draw your inspiration?

I get inspiration from anything and everything; travelling, fine artists such as Amy Gross and Gosha, illustrators such as James Jean, animators including The Blackheart Gang and Terry Gilliam, watching films and cartoons, games, magazines, books or even mundane tasks.

What do you plan to do after graduating?

I want to travel for a year to collect scrap books of photography and sketches to help with ideas for animations, and from there gain experience in animating by working for an animation company such as Rough Draft Studios and Weta Digital.

Tell us what you like about Leeds

I love that I'm only a 30 minute train ride from home and that the city centre is an amazing place to shop and socialise with friends.
