Why did you choose Leeds Arts University?
I chose Leeds Arts University as my son did a foundation course a couple of years ago and he pointed me in the direction of the adult education courses. My son always told me how fantastic the University is and he thoroughly enjoyed his year there. The location was perfect, as I was already living on the outskirts of Leeds and I know the city very well.
What made you select the Access course?
My age was the first thing that came to mind, as I am a mature student and the Access course was most suited to me. With it being part-time as well, it was ideal as I could still work alongside my studies.
What do you really enjoy about your course and the University?
I really enjoy working within an artistic environment and mixing with students of all ages. The facilities and workshops at the University are excellent and give you a broad range of techniques and skills that you may have never tried before, and the tutors are always there to help and give you the support you need.
What are the studios and facilities like at the University?
The studios are very well equipped and the library is excellent and provides everything you could need, from books to audio to film and is very accessible. The studios and the technicians are always there to offer you guidance.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on my summer brief, which involves exploring sculptural pieces in materials such as wood and metal.
Where do you draw your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from natural, organic forms, particularly for my most recent projects. However, as a jeweller I find inspiration in many forms; fashion, religion, architecture or certain cultures.
What do you plan to do after University? What are you currently doing?
I have just completed my Level 2 Diploma in Visual Arts and am now about to start the Access to Higher Education course. I hope to go on to study a BA degree in an artistic field.
Tell us what you like about Leeds?
Leeds is my hometown, so I have grown in and around the city. The art community is fantastic; there is always something happening here, new exhibitions opening or workshops to take part in. It's a great place to socialise and meet new people.
Please tell us any other interesting info/ about your background?
