We caught up with BA (Hons) Visual Communication student Zeina about studying in the UK, what inspires her work and her plans after graduation...
Why did you choose to study at Leeds Arts University?
The course was exactly what I was looking for, a broad course that covers a lot of areas in Art and Design. The University is known to have really good facilities as well as an overall good reputation. It was also located in a very fun and lively city.
What are the advantages of studying at a specialist arts institution?
Everyone around you appreciates art; the building in itself is covered in art, and gives a very motivating and inspiring artsy environment. Plus all the money goes towards art-related equipment and support, so all the more benefit.
There are important differences in the way art and design is taught in the UK compared to other countries. What have you noticed regarding the learning experience at Leeds Arts University?
Leeds Arts University teaches a lot of different areas in the art world and so If I need help with something only slightly related to my course, there is always someone that knows a lot more about it, on the campus. We are also taught in a very open-minded way and are given a lot of freedom of expression.
How have you adjusted to life in the UK and what advice would you give a new international student?
I have, more or less. Advice: Get inducted into as many things as you can, you never know when it’ll come in handy.
What are the studios and facilities like at the University?
Well equipped, and not overcrowded.
Do you feel that studying at Leeds Arts University is preparing you well for life after graduation?
So far so good, yes.
