Our undergraduate programmes can be completed in three rather than four years and our master’s programme takes just one calendar year. We also offer a one year Foundation Diploma in Art and DesignExtended Diploma in Art & Design and Access to Higher Education & Level 2 Diploma in Visual Arts designed to introduce students to the breadth of possibilities within the field of art and design.

Entry Requirements

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

European Baccalaureate Diploma: An overall score of 60% EB6 (which must include English and Maths)

International Baccalaureate: 3 Certificates - 2 at Higher Level and 1 at Standard Level with a grade of 4 or above.  2 of the certificates (either Higher or Standard) must be in English and Maths.

IELTS: Overall score of 5 with minimum of 4.5 in each component www.ielts.org

BA (Hons) Undergraduate courses:

European Baccalaureate Diploma overall score between 65% and 75% according to course, including English as a first or second language with a minimum of 60%/grade 6

International Baccalaureate Diploma: 26 points which must include an art/design related subject. IB English Language Standard or Higher level 4. 

English language requirements

  • IELTS 5.5 with minimum of 5.5 in each component www.ielts.org
  • CAE (Cambridge Advanced Certificate) in English at grade C or above
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) with a minimum overall score of 46 (with no less than 42 in any component)

Postgraduate courses:

A second class upper division honours degree from a British University or a degree of a comparable standard from a university or recognised degree awarding body in another country;
or a relevant professional qualification at an equivalent level, supported by a portfolio of work.

Candidates holding other academic qualifications may be considered for admission provided they have substantial relevant professional experience and a portfolio of work.

Portfolio

In addition to English language and the appropriate academic qualifications. For almost all courses you should also be able to present a portfolio of work which demonstrates your interests and ability in art and design. Portfolio advice can be found on the programme/course pages of the online prospects.

Fees

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Bulgaria

Undergraduate – BA (Hons) degree courses:

Diploma of Completed Secondary Education (Диплома за Cредно Oбразование) with a minimum mark of 5 (mnogo dobur), including two subjects achieved at Matura level.

Cyprus

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Greek-Cypriot System - Apolytirion pass with score below minimum for entry to bachelor degree.

Turkish-Cypriot System - Devlet Lise Diplomasi (State High School Diploma) / Lise Bitirme Diplomasi (Private High School Finishing Diploma) with reasonable GPA.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Greek-Cypriot System - Apolytirion with min 17/20 or 80%

Turkish-Cypriot System - Lise Diplomasi with a minimum of 80% (4/5).

Postgraduate:

Greek System – Bachelor degree with a minimum of 7.5 grading.

Turkish System – 4 year Lisans Diplomasi with a minimum of 2.40 grading.

Czech Republic

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Maturitni Zkouška / Vysvedceni o Matuitni Zkouške.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Maturitni Zkouška  / Maturitna with good grades.

Postgraduate:

Bakalar or Magistr / Professional Title with minimum level of velmi dobre (good) or vyborne (excellent). 

Denmark

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Pædagogisk Grunduddannelse (PGU) (Basic Education Certificate) holders may be eligible for Foundation Diploma in Art and Design entry. 

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Bevis for Højere Forberedelseseksamen (HF) (Higher Preparatory Examination Certificate) or Bevis for Højere Handelseksamen (HHX) / Bevis for Højere Teknisk Eksamen (HTX) (Higher Commerce Examination / Higher Technical Examination Certificate) or Bevis for Studentereksamen (Secondary Education Graduation Certificate) holders may be eligible for Yr 1 entry.

Postgraduate:

Bachelor degree or Candidatus Philosophiae or Diplomingeniør (Engineer) or Professionsbachelor (Professional Bachelor degree) holders may be eligible for PGT study.

France

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Hungary

Iceland

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

- Stúdentspróf (from Gymnasium) – minimum score 5

- IELTS 5.0 (with no component lower than 4.5) or equivalent English language qualification. Alternatively, you will have studied English language as part of the Studentsprof.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

- Stúdentspróf (from Gymnasium) – 7.5 or higher

Ireland

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Irish Leaving Certificate equivalent to 1 A level (please contact the admissions office at the University to confirm the exact entry requirements for this course).

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Irish Leaving certificate results equivalent to a minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points. Please refer to the UCAS tariff points calculator.

Postgraduate:

Bachelor Honours degree, second class honours, grade I.

Italy

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Diploma di Esame di Stato with satisfactory score.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Diploma di Esame di Stato with a score above 70.

Postgraduate:

Diploma di Laurea Specialistica (LS) or Diploma di Laurea with a score above 105.

Latvia

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Atestats par Visparejo Videjo Izglitibu with grades below those acceptable for Bachelor degree may be considered.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

An Atestats par visparejo videjo izglitibu (Attestation of General Secondary Education) when awarded after the three years of study following nine years of basic education and a good result in five final examinations administered by the Education Content and Examination Centre (ECEC).

Min Grade 7 (Good) out of 10, or Grade C. ‘To achieve a minimum of 112 tariff points. Please refer to the UCAS tariff calculator.

Postgraduate:

Bakalaurs (courses from 2002) grade B or 8.

Lithuania

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Students who have completed their secondary education (Vidurinis l'silavinimas) and have Brandos Atestatas may be considered.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

a Brandos Atestatas (certificate of maturity) from a gymnasium or secondary school when awarded after two years of upper secondary education, min 75%.

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Vitnemål for Videregående Opplæring - Overall Pass including English and a Creative Arts subject.

IELTS is not required for any programme if you have obtained Grade 3 in English Language as part of the Vitnemål for Videregående Opplæring.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Vitnemål for Videregående Opplæring - Grades 3+ including English and a Creative Arts subject.

Postgraduate:

Licencjat/Inżynier/Bachelor degree (post 2003); Magister (before 2003 reforms).

Portugal

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Diploma Nível Secundário de Educação / Certificado Nível Secundário de Educação with a minimum grade above 10 classified as ‘Suficiente’.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Diploma Nível Secundário de Educação / Certificado Nível Secundário de Educação with a minimum grade above 14 classified as ‘Bom’.

Postgraduate:

Diploma de Estudos Superiores Especializados (DESE) with a good grade.

Romania

Undergraduate – BA (Hons) degree courses:

Diploma de Bacalaureat with a minimum overall grade of 8, with no individual subject below grade 6.

Slovakia

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design:

Holders of the maturitnej skúške / Maturita who do not meet grade requirements for first year entry may be considered.

Undergraduate - BA (Hons) degree programmes:

Channel Islands and the Isle of Man

If you are in receipt of an award from your Island authority for higher education, you are treated differently (that is, not as a 'home' or 'overseas' fee payer). There is an agreement between the Island authorities and UK higher education institutions that the Island government will pay your fees at an agreed rate.

GIDE

The University is a member of GIDE (Group for International Design Education), an international consortium of higher-education design schools working together to enrich the experience of art and design students. Leeds Arts University is one of seven GIDE partners, alongside institutions in Germany, Italy, Belgium, Scotland, Slovenia and Switzerland. Each year, the institutions participate in an international project, working in mixed groups towards a public exhibition of selected work.
