Course content
 
Level one:
Course one – Autumn Millinery: Working with commercial felt hoods, hand blocking techniques will be developed to design a piece to couture standards, looking at trimming options and how to finish a hat to a high standard.
 
Course two – Winter Millinery: Further development with felt and introducing other materials in millinery production to create hats that students wish to design and manufacture.
 
Course three - Summer Hats and fascinators:  Working with sinamay and straw to create pieces for any occasion.
 
Level two:
Course one – Feltmakers:  Advanced felt techniques working with commercial felt creating innovative pieces from self designed briefs with an aim to looking to Feltmakers Guild competition.
 
Course two - Innovative millinery: Working with traditional millinery materials in new ways, creating own brief to design and develop headwear.
 
Course three – Innovative Millinery:  Continued development of techniques and processes working towards exhibiting.
 
Teaching
Primarily by demonstration and both group and one to one work.
 
Location/ facilities
The class will be held in room 101C of the fashion department, at the Blenheim Walk Building. There is a library and cafeteria which evening class students are entitled to use. There is a College car park costing £1 for the evening. A permit should be bought from the car park attendant and displayed.
 
Equipment and materials costs
A basic sewing kit is required. Materials for each hat will vary but can be as little as £5.00 for a felt hat to £20 for a large sinamay piece.
 
College information
You will be issued with a swipe card which you will need to access the building. Evening class students will be able to access the College from 5.00-9.00pm on the evening of the class.
 
Fee
For 2009/2010, we are introducing loyalty fees for those students who return to study with us:
·         First ten week course - £150
·         Second ten week course - £135 (10% discount)
·         Third ten week course - £120 (20% discount)
Fees will be subject to change for 2010/2011
 
Booking a place
We enrol for each course at the start of each term. However students who are already enrolled get priority for places on the next course – to give them the opportunity to develop their skills – with any places not taken up being offered to those who’ve left their details for our mailing list.
