Course content | A contemporary art course for adults aged 19+ with moderate to light learning disabilities. This course is designed to support students to develop their own ideas into art work using a variety of skills and media. Students will need to be able to contribute to discussions and work independently to get the most form this course. It is at a higher level than usual to challenge more able students to progress further. You will learn a broad range of skills, including the ability to make work using mixed media, painting and drawing, textiles, 3D and printing. You will learn about artists form around the world. Each term will be based on a theme decided by the group and after we have got to know you, we will support you to grow and enjoy making art suited to your ability level. | |
Teaching | During the first few sessions, the team will spend time getting to know students, so that the course can be planned appropriately to ability. We will spend a few sessions warming up and give students the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other. Most sessions start with a discussion and demonstration of techniques, then moves on to students making their own work; we usually finish the session with a discussion about each others work. | |
Location and facilities | The class is based at the Potternewton centre, Potternewton View, Leeds, LS7 2DW. We use a good sized art room in this training centre which is well equipped. | |
