Students from BA(Hons) Fine Art and Programme Leader Sheila Gaffney undertook a week long residency at SSW in Aberdeenshire in October 2011.
The trip was part of a project devised by Sheila Gaffney and the Director of SSW Dr Nuno Sacramento which aims to interface the tradition of medal making with questions about the social function of art, and questions regarding the value of symbolic object at a time when the UK prepares to host the 2012 Olympics.
The project has been supported in Leeds by a workshop with master founder Kabir Hussain and facilitated in Lumsden by Senior Technician Eden Jolly. It will develop further with the forthcoming participation of students from Glasgow School of Art .
