Leeds College of Art has recently held its second pop-up shop which invited the general public into the College to purchase original pieces of original art, design and crafts from current students and recent graduates.
During the three day sale handmade ceramics, jewellery, wrapping paper, booklets, screen prints and apparel were all available in the cafe of the Colleges Blenheim Walk building.
One of the screen prints on sale was created by Adam Townend, a recent graduate from Leeds College of Art BA (Hons) Graphic Design course whose work was chosen as a raffle prize by the shows organisers.
The screen printed posters are based on mainstream and cult inventions, fads and trends from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, which Adam created specifically for the pop up shop.
Adam notes:
‘The reason that I wanted to get involved with the pop up shop was to help understand the business side of graphic design. I am really driven by process and production, but I think it’s hugely important to gain new experience in costs, materials and profits, which the pop up shop enabled me to do. I designed the piece because I thought it would sell well, and be of interest to people of all ages. I like to think that the work might trigger memories for people. I am heading down to D&AD New Blood exhibition with some of these prints, so hopefully the winner could have a D&AD recognised piece!’
Thanks to everyone who visited the event in May. The next pop-up shop we be held on the 23rd- 25th November 2011.
