We really want your time at the College to be as successful as possible. So here are some of our top tips to help:
Enjoy it!
Although you’ll want to be working hard, make sure you get the balance right. You’ll be more successful if you’re happy, so make friends, socialise, explore Leeds, settle into your home… and relax. And if there are any worries at all, please don’t delay in contacting our Student Advice Team.
Read and research
It’s not really enough to just attend classes—if you want to do well, read around your subject. That means looking into its history and famous names; staying up to date with all the latest magazines and periodicals; looking at relevant websites, etc. You’ll find our libraries amazingly useful, so spend some time learning how to use them. The staff there will be happy to help.
Seek out inspiration
We’re an art and design college—so train your eye to find inspiration in anything. Wander around, go visiting; see what other people just don’t see. Look at things differently. Find the beautiful in the ugly, and the ugly in the beautiful. Contrast rural and urban, light and dark. And you’re particularly lucky, because Leeds is the perfect place for all of this!
Use your time well
Make sure you know how to use your time well. Don’t leave assignments to the last minute; leave plenty of time for research, and for revision before exams. Balance your day as well as your week; make sure you set aside time for studying, relaxing, and sleeping. Eat well, and regularly—you need the brain-food!
