Travelling to Leeds

There are several options for International and European students; whichever you choose, it is important that you book your tickets well in advance, to ensure you arrive safely in Leeds and to get the best discounts (and remember to ask for any student discounts!).

By air: Leeds Bradford International Airport is situated 11 miles (about 25 minutes' drive) from Leeds city centre. There are flights to Leeds Bradford from all over the world, via Paris, Amsterdam, London Heathrow, Brussels and Dublin (to avoid extra cost, you are advised to book your flight to Leeds at the same time that you book your main ticket).

Please let us know of your arrival time in Leeds. If you prefer to make your own way from the airport, there is a Metro Connect coach service which stops at the Leeds bus station or train station. There are usually taxis waiting at the airport, but should you have any problems we have provided a list of taxi numbers for you on the meet and greet arrangements leaflet.

If you fly into a London airport, you should catch a shuttle bus or an underground train (use the Jubilee line from Heathrow) to connect with central London rail and coach services.

By ferry: Students from many European countries choose to catch a ferry to one of the English ports (including Hull, Portsmouth, Dover, Newhaven and others), as it is often a cheaper way to travel. You are advised to book your train or coach from the ferry port to Leeds in advance (see below for details of train and coach travel).

By train: you can travel to Leeds by train. The Eurostar runs from Brussels, Lille and Paris to St Pancras Station, London. You will need to transfer to Kings Cross station, which is a short walk away, to catch a train to Leeds; trains depart approximately every 30 minutes, although you should check Sunday timetables. Book with National Express East Coast – bear in mind booking well in advance can significantly decrease the cost of your ticket.

By coach: National Express Coaches is a national service with coaches connecting with Leeds from Victoria Coach Station, London as well as many other British towns. You should book your coach ticket in advance. You might alternatively choose to travel by Eurolines, Europe’s express coach network, connecting over 500 destinations in Europe.
